>> yesterday was beautiful. sunshine temperatures moved into the low 50s. today will be a little cooler. not only the temperatures but we will have stronger winds as well. that will add windchill to the air. right now temperatures aren't fwhad. we are talking 40s to start off the morning. that's pretty good on a january morning. we have 44 right now downtown and 41 at the airport. forecast for today we are expect to do get into the upper 40s. we are starting off with mostly clear skies. there could be a few clouds late into the day as temperatures get up near 50 degrees. with the chilly breeze it will feel colder than that. make sure you dress warm through out the day we will be enjoying the dry weather. cold weather comes into the 70s. stay tuned for the details. well, the ravens are in ready for the championship rematch against the new england patriots in what could be the biggest game of the year. ravens fans have been looking

forward to this game all week long. we are now 13 hours away from the game. ravens will make the last push for the super bowl when they take on the patriots. pete gilbert has more. >> less intimidated or confidence in the chances to win than the ravens. the texans thought they were ready twice this year dismissed. the ravens have wanted gillette stadium and in defeat safe to say from new england attention is concern earned. >> i have tremendous respect for the baltimore raven the. they are great competitors. we know we have to play the best game of the year. >> baltimore has great football team. very good on defense. we have had a lot of great games against them. and this will be another great game. >> regularity with which they not meenlt but compete with such ferocious balance has not read

leader on the baseball die p monday. >> when baltimoreans think of the silver haired earl we think of intensity harass ability and longevity. the earth of bauearl as baltimo. beloved like a son of the city. he was st. louis born in 1930 but spent his entire career as a manager in baltimore. the ball club was his for 17 seasons from 1968 to 1982 and from 1985 to 1986. under the earl the otherials o yells won a title 4 pennants and the world series in 1970. in all he won 1480 games. when he was inducted into the hall of fame in 1996 he was acknowledged for his intensity, flair and as certificati assert. his style and colorful

confrontations with the men in flu. pitching and three run homer were the hall marks. close your eyes surely you see his hat on backwards his face full of fire on the verge of ejection. our earl of baltimore. in 1986 he said on my tombstone just write the sorest loser that ever lived. a sore loser number four, one who will be sorely missed. >> the passing of earl weaver came on a day when orioles fans came together in baltimore for fanfest. fans share the favorite memories of weaver's time. >> coming in. both doors are open. >> it's a sad day. i think it is appropriate they are celebrating oriole baseball at the fanfest. >> as thousands of fans look ahead to the pmise of the coming season many are looking back celebrating the life of

earl weaver widely considered the greatest ghaern the team -- manager the team has ever had. the fanfest started with a tribute and a moment of vsilenc. >> he was a big inspiration to everybody. sad to hear he is gone. >> we are an oriole family. >> on days like this it's nice to be with birds of the same feather. >> you wouldn't want to be anywhere else first day around oriole players and thousands of oriole fans just to remember everything about them. >> sad day for the oriole fans but it was nice to see them come to the stadium one last time. >> number four, the great earl weaver. >> he's talking about this past season when weaver was one of 6 hall of famers the orioles honored with a bronze statue. >> he went to every statue dedication. it was almost like a victory lap or a victory tour for him

because we get to see him again. >> now that he is gone current orioles manager said there's a lot of emotion at fanfest. some of it is excitement and forward momentum some of it is because of the loss of an orioles legend. >> everybody is trying to collect their thoughts and feelings. there is a reason they call him earl of baltimore. >> sara sampson wbal-tv 11 news. >> the mayor released a statement on weaver's passing. his team brought pride as well as championships to our great city. my prayers are with the families the orioles and generations of fans who loved his unique character and shared great memories. two people are dead after a single car accident. it happened at 2:30 in the 6500 block of paren parkway. missed a curve ran off the road and struck a tree. two passengers were pronounced

dead at the scene. the driver was taken to shock trauma in serious but stable condition. police are investigating a homicide in the 300 block of east north avenue. police responded to a call for aggravated assault shortly after midnight saturday. investigators found a whom would eventually died from her injuries. no word on a suspect or possible motive. a police officer is out on bail after being raised at a bar. police were called to the reck room around 2:15 saturday morning that's where they found 28-year-old matthew daughterty allegedly intoxicated. he was off duty but pointed his service weapon at two other men during a confrontation at the parking lot. he faces two counts of reckless endangerment. >> it is 5:09 and 41 degrees. it is a purple day. very purple. they are supposed to pick you up but are also putting you down.

for a january morning we should be starting off in the 20s. so much above normal right now. we will be above normal even into the afternoon. winds will take a toll on the temperatures more today than what you saw yesterday especially as they start to pick up out of the west. right now they are only between 5 and 10 miles per hour around the baltimore metro area. 14 in cambridge and ocean city. that will add a windchill to the air. a sunny start and afternoon clouds later on. you have to dress for today winds west 10-20 miles per hour. gusting up to 30 miles per hour making it feel 10 degrees colder at times. boy is it going to get cold into the next couple days. powerful cold front moves in as we go into tomorrow. look at the deep shading the purple that's the cold air that will drop in. notice how it drops 20 degrees from chicago down to minneapolis

where they are at 0 degrees. wait for our temperatures to see a big drop as well. the first of it will be a weak cop cold front that am coulds through later in the afternoon. it will does koom throw mostly dry unless you get up into the mountains where they have light snow showers. notice how the front does come through dry. mostly dry as we go into new england. second cold front could come through something if you are hiding down to dc for the inauguration you may have to face slippery spots on the roads. it will be cold for the ravens they play earlier this evening dropping to the upper 20s for the game. the windchill will make it feel colder. at least the game will be mostly dry. they face much worse conditions. they will be okay into the evening hours. for us mostly cloudy chance for

plummet as we go through the upcoming week. first indication is we have strong lake-effect snow showers. trying to track all of the way from one coast to the west. temperatures are starting off mild. southwest at 4 miles an hour at the airport 11 down to our south in california, 13 miles per hour in cambridge. start to go pick up a little bit as we go through the southwest. that will keep a chill in the air today. temperatures yesterday reached in the low 50s. today we are talking upper 40s. a few degrees cooler not by much but it feels cooler today because of the winds. they will be coming in out of the west 10-20 miles per hour. gusting up to 30 miles per hour. you want to bundle up if you plan to be out later today with the windchill. we start off sunny and a few

clouds build in as we go through the afternoon. here's a look at the temperatures across the state right now. 41 degrees at the airport. 44 downtown. 39 parkton and 34 in frederick. these temperatures could be much worse. they are going to get so much colder as we go into the next couple days. this is what we are watching right now. the cold air already starting to make its way into minnesota, wisconsin as well. currently minneapolis at 0 degrees. we are going to see temperatures a little closer to that as we go into this week. cold front will be coming our way this afternoon. it will be mostly dry. today no chance of precipitation the following day a better chance. but put the future cast in motion to time this out. watch this cold front here creating snow showers in pennsylvania. up state new york through out the day. then it starts to swing eastern in pennsylvania. we are not talking much precipitation just a few clouds this afternoon. tomorrow colder air starts to

filter in. lake-effect snow showers could make their way down into maryland and have have to watch along the 95 core gore going into new england. people traveling back from the game could face snow showers. it will be dry for the game partly cloudy skies in fox borough, massachusetts. breezy conditions temperatures falling into the upper 20s through out the day and we are expecting gusts up to 20 miles per hour. that adhas the windchill feel le teens at times. people traveling back for the game watch out for snow showers along 95. even here expecting snow showers scattered about few areas could see up to an inch of snow. we are expecting breezy conditions as well. chilly only in the upper 30s. look at tdwroefr night. >> jennifer fans yacranciotto h scoping out havens fans.

jennifer took the hike along the freedom trail. ran into a couple of ravens fans. >> boston is an old city. if you like history the burial ground is a must see on the trail. on the bots ton harbor a familiar sight. this floating history museum is the uss constitution. boston common marks the earliest celting of the city by the puritans. pure fun across the street an ice rink sits in the shadows of the new massachusetts skate house. you can see where the lanterns were hung for the midnight ride of paul revere where the decision was made to host the boston tea party. the burying ground is in the middle of downtown fwons. only 2,000 or so visible grave stones but it is believed over 9,000 are buried here including many famous revolutionary

college presidents already working with students to help make ends meet. >> one of the concerns in the system is to keep college affordable. make sure people can start a college education and finish a college education and it's a good one. >> this is what it will look like this fall on the college bill for in state tuition. 25 percent increase for students at the university of maryland. $169. $169.80 for tal some university 169.62 at cowpens state university and $225.55 at the maryland land park. the student member board of reege against says the increase could have been higher. >> tuition has to go up to keep the funding up for universities. quality is important. so 3 percent is not that bad

character and shared great memories on 33rd street. >> two people are dead after a single car accident in baltimore city. it happened in the 6500 block of paren parkway. a car missed a curve and went off the road and struck a tree. two passengers were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. the driy is in serious but stable condition. >> after investigating a homicide in northeast baltimore it happened in the 300 block of east north avenue. they called for aggravated assault. a woman eventually died of her injuries. no word on a suspect for possible motive. >> a baltimore police officer is arrested at a bar. according to county officials they were found in a reck room at about 2:15 that's where they found daugherty intoxicated. he was off duty but pointed his

stronger winds overnight. it's the clear calm nights we get a lot of the heat loss overnight. look at the winds starting to pick up in maryland. gusting up to 24 miles per hour. in oakland we are seeing wind gusts in the 10-15 mile per hour range across the eastern shore. the winds will add a chill to the air today. even though it's in the upper 40z toward the afternoon doesn't sound that bad take off about 10 degrees when you factor in the wind gusting up to 25 to 35 miles per hour winds today sustained 10-20 miles per hour out of the west. sunny skies to start and a few clouds as we go into the afternoon. mostly dry conditions in new england as well. temperatures on the chilly side. better than what they faced in

denver. dropping into the upper 20s through out the west of the game. breezy winds will add a windchill as well. plenty prepared after denver. 41 up in boston. 41 degrees in baltimore. 40 louisville, 18 in chicago. this is very cold air that will be coming in out of the northwest. you can see it in the purple shading 0 degrees at minneapolis st. paul airport. that cold air will come our way behind the cold front that moves through later this afternoon. the first cold front comes through mostly dry. we don't have to worry about precipitation here or in boston as well. watch here on the future cast. tracks in pennsylvania and falls apart. sprinkle in parts of western massachusetts for the day and dry conditions for the game. it's the cold air behind the front that will spark instability snow showers into tomorrow. these will cause minor accumulations across the area. scattered snow showers and snow squalls coming through.

they are works of art with amazing detail. look at this bride. ariel didn't miss a thing. there's a ring and bling and of course a bride needs a garter. and this doll looks like she can really belt out a song. >> her name is rosa. >> ariel started making the dolls when she was 12 right after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. it keeps her mind off the tumor and at times ariel can barely keep her eyes open. the tumor robs her of energy mobility and memory. she wanted to sell the dolls to help her family out. her father haze bladder cancer and her mother has lupus. tina home schooled ariel's twin brother max who was autistic. after we shared the story people flocked to the exchange to buy a doll by ariel.

>> boom miracle on charles street. from the moment it came on television i sold out of dolls. her dolls are on back order until july. >> the next day, more people came to the store when they heard ariel would bring more dolls. >> they actually waited for her to get here for 4 or 5 hours. >> people wanted to get her autograph and have her sign their doll. >> they were from new york and they came all of the way down from new york to see me. he was shocked to see why they came all of the way down. they wanted a doll. so i was happy about that. judy was the first person to call the store when she received her doll she was thrilled. >> oh my goodness. is that not the most beautiful doll. this is my little ariel. isn't she gorgeous?

>> she has a chair in my living room waiting for her. >> they wanted to buy a doll to help the family her own daughter had brain cancer when she was 10. >> she is a beautiful 47-year-old woman today. i am so grateful she is alive. how could i not reach out to ariel. >> they donated supplies to help make more dolls christmas tree gifts for the whole family and home cooked meal on christmas day. there were also monetary donations to help this family with mounting medical bills and everything needing. >> ariel's wonderful dolls and your family set backs. please accept this gift to help with your expenses. we just want to thank everybody who showed that they cared and someone wrote a note that showed -- that said to ariel

problem in the united states and across the world for a long time. therapies work but they ararely cure people of advanced disease. the way to move forward is screen those at risk to catch lung pans cancer earlier. we have a test published that shows lung cancer screenings save lives for people at risk. mainly between 55 and 74 who were heavy smokers. >> tell me about some of the other risk factors as well? >> others include occupational exposures to asbestos, toxic fumes and a family history. we are coming to appreciate having a brother or sister or parent with lung cancer puts people at increased risk to develop lung cancer. >> it seems often you hear about a case where someone is diagnosed with lung cancer the immediate question is were they a smoker. sometimes recently the answer is no they weren't. is that because of the genetic

predisposition? >> lung cancer and never smokers is a vexing problem. we don't know what the cause it. they have quit smoking but the relative risk of smoking never falls to that of a never smoker. the ricks can of heart disease a never spoker to five years. >> even someone who quit smoking in 1960 his risk of cancer is never that of these who didn't smoke. the damage is done so we have to keep an eye on that. >> what about treatment options? how have things changed. >> lung cancer is not being defined the ghentic alteratioite ghentic alterations. i encourage advances in treatment. this is for a upset of patients. most people will not have the perfect match but more and more people are having this as we
